Tam Giang Lagoon (Phá Tam Giang)

Tam Giang Lagoon, located 15 km from Hue City, is the biggest lagoon in Southeast Asia, covering nearly 22,000 hectares. The lagoon is the meeting place of 3 big rivers, including Huong, O Lau and Bo, before they run into the sea through the Thuan An estuary.

A large, brackish, coastal lagoon, about 20 km long and up to 3 km wide, Tam Giang Lagoon supports a rich fish and invertebrate fauna, and is a major staging and wintering area for migratory waterfowl, particularly ducks and shorebirds.

To get to the lagoon, travelers can take a 30 minutes ride along O Lau River then pass through Bao Vinh ancient town and finally to Vinh Tu wharf. The most beautiful moments on the lagoon are at sunset when it turns purple.
