Established in 1865, making it one of the oldest zoos in world, the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden welcomes approximate 2 million visitors every year.
It is considered as the best and largest recreational areas in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City).
Known as Thao Cam Vien locally, it is home to more than 500 animals, birds and many species of plants that were seen in Vietnam for the first time such as cacao and coffee.
There are 2,000 trees including Chinese incense-cedar, a bonsai “forest” and a large greenhouse full of purple orchids.
This creates a great setting for an afternoon stroll. The garden also houses rare species such as black-legged gibbons, flame-colored wolves, red headed cranes, orangutans and a small herd of Asian elephants.
