Eastern Thailand runs from east of Bangkok all the way to the Cambodian frontier at Hat Lek. The area encompasses the coastal provinces of Chonburi, Chachoengsao, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat, and the further you go from Bangkok the better the beaches get. Geographically the smallest of the five regions of Thailand, Eastern Thailand contains just seven provinces.
Five of its provinces border the Gulf of Thailand, and three share borders with Cambodia, all of which have at least one international border crossing. Fruit is a major component of agriculture in the area, and the region’s coastal location has helped promote the Eastern Seaboard industrial development, a major factor in the economy of the region.
The east coast is filled with a series of bays and beaches including Pattaya, Asia’s leading beach resort. This part of Eastern Thailand map is filled with many natural gifts such as exquisite islands, beaches, gemstones, orchards, dense forest, and several national parks with natural waterfalls. Tourism plays a significant role in the economy of the east of Thailand.
