Sule Pagoda

Sule Pagoda is situated at the heart of the city of Yangon, believed to be constructed over 2,000 years ago in the typical Burmese Mon style with four entrances facing the four compass points. Its octagonal stupa is said to contain a hair of the Buddha.

The golden pagoda is unusual in that its octagonal shape continues right up to the bell and inverted bowl. This 48 meter high pagoda was used by the British as the nucleus of their grid pattern for Yangon when it was rebuilt in the 1880s.
