Located northeast of Shwedagon, Chauk Htat Gyi Pagoda is famous for its 65 meters long image of striking Reclining Buddha with the footprint decorated with 108 sacred Buddhist symbols.
The pagoda was built at the turn of the 20th century, but after years of neglect, was brought to the present site in 1966. Generally the Chauk Htat Gyi Pagoda in Yangon is referred to as the 6 tiered pagodas.
Another unique part of the Chauk Htat Gyi Pagoda is that the entire construction cost was borne by the people of the city.
