Wat Chaiwatthanaram

Located on the bank of the Chao Phraya River, Wat Chaiwatthanaram is an imposing monastery conceived as a replica of the Angkor Wat in Cambodia.

It was built by King Prasat Thong in 1630 and may have been built to commemorate the King’s victory over Thailand’s neighbor. The temples unique feature is a huge prang of 35 meters tall, which is surrounded by smaller prangs situated alongside a gallery containing over 100 Buddha images.

The temple is spacious and its well-kept grounds are peaceful. It is accessible by a long-tailed boat trip from Chankasem Palace Pier.
