Pillars-Meeting of Stalactite and Stalagmite

Rock FormationsDrops of water containing calcium bicarbonate seep through the roof of the cave. As the water evaporates it leaves only the sediment.

Drops of water continue to run down and drop of the stalactite with pin point accuracy, forming a stalagmite below.

Day after day the drops continue until both structures meet forming a pillar sculpture, some of which formed over 1000 years ago.
