The central region Thailand is composed of 22 provinces. It is in the very heart of Kingdom where Bangkok, the country's capital, is located.

Considered the rice bowl of Thailand as it has the most rice farming in Thailand, the region is perfect for cultivation of rice and other agricultural produce.

The area contains many places of historical interest and natural beauty. Everything from the old capital of Ayutthaya, to the world war II "death railway" to beach resorts can be found within a two hour drive from Bangkok.

Traditionally the central region has extended all the way east to the Cambodian border, but due to recent development of places such as Pattaya, the East coast is now considered a whole region on its own.

The central region is also the center for the country's tourism development in various ways. With an efficient road system, the region is very accessible by car and is the place from which most tourists set off on their journey further to other regions.
