Memorial Bridge in Bangkok

The bridge is widely known as Phra Phuttha Yotfa Bridge and shortly called Saphan Phut. It was the second bridge built across the Chao Phraya river and opened on April 6, 1932 in the reign of King Rama VII.

It was built in the occation of 150th, anniversary of Bangkok to commemorate Somdet Phra Phuttha Yotfa Chulalok the Great (King Rama I), the founder of Bangkok.

Memorial Bridge in Bangkok

The bridge was built of iron structure with openable pavement for passing ships after restoration in 1986, the pavement was permanently fixed and can not open any more. At the one side of the bridge is the statue of King Rama I, built together with the bridge. The statue was designed by Prince Narissara Nuwatthiwong, and casted Professor Silpa Phirashri.
